Greetings, fellow donkeys, and welcome to the Modern Donkey blog! Sorry it took so long to start posting. How on earth does one choose a blog-hosting site without having an anxiety attack/trip to the liquor store? How many donkeys does it take to understand there’s no “e” in “tumblr”? Too many. (Disclaimer – these questions may serve as music themes for future episodes when creativity is running low).
First and foremost, I just want to say to all of you – women, men, children, children of men, children of the corn, corn syrup – thank you all so much for making the first episode of Modern Donkey (which aired Wednesday, 01/18/12) such a success. Your enthusiasm and comment/media submissions helped make my multiple anxiety attacks/trips to the liquor store while on the air for 3-hours that much less noticeable. Seriously, awesome job, guys.
To recap, we discussed the theme of ALBUM OPENERS, as it was indeed the opening (also known as “the start”) of a new quarter at KZSU Stanford. We went over the various roles openers play – from introductory short enigmatic clip, to pieces that put you in a specific mood, to songs that jump out and grab your attention from the start. Openers serve a very important role at times when they’re the first song heard by people in power – record execs, KZSU music staff (the most powerful, I say!), and of course squatters in buildings broadcasting radio shows dedicated to openers. The list goes on and on.
To hear a rebroadcast of the show, sit in a corner and feel the guilt from not tuning in on time. Then proceed to send me an email at moderndonkey@gmail.com, and I’ll see if I can send some carrier pigeons your way to squawk out a replaying of my “mellifluous voice” (direct quote from listener/paid family member) so you can hear the program in full.
